What is Hospice?

HOSPICE CARE involves a core interdisciplinary team of professionals and volunteers who provide medical, psychological, and spiritual support to the terminally ill, as well as support for the patient’s family. The care is primarily based in the home enabling families to remain together in peace, comfort, and dignity. Hospice seeks to enhance the dying person’s quality of life and to provide support for family and other caregivers. Hospice focuses on the hope that every day will be the best it can be, for the patient and his or her caregivers. Our goal is to ease the suffering of the terminally ill patient, and their family and emphasizes the quality of life, not the duration.

Our mission is to provide quality Hospice/palliative care to all persons, their families and those affected by death and dying in our community and surrounding areas; to be a leading resource in clinical and ethical practice and to advocate effectively for patients’ comfort, dignity and choice in spiritual and cultural issues of dying and grief.

Syringa Hospital & Clinics Hospice provides services to residents within Idaho County. We are a Medicare and Medicaid Certified hospice; however, additional support is needed for people living in our communities who do not qualify for Medicare/Medicaid or have any other insurance.

Hospice services are covered under Medicare and currently 45 states offer hospice care as an option under their Medicaid programs. In addition, hospice care is a covered benefit under most private insurance plans, HMOs and other managed care organizations. Military personnel and their dependents are covered for hospice under TRICARE. Hospice continues to rely heavily on grants and community support to fund care which is not reimbursed and for patients with little or no insurance.

Syringa Hospital & Clinics Hospice does not deny services to anyone because of a lack of resources. Fundraising events, donations from patrons, and memorial gifts combine to cover the cost of care for those unable to pay. Our annual “Just for the Hill of It” Bike Challenge gives local businesses an opportunity to help support those we serve. Your business name will be printed on the T-shirts recognizing you as a hospice sponsor, providing you with an excellent opportunity for recognition in the community. Your donation is fully tax deductible through the Syringa Hospital Foundation, an IRS approved 501(c)3 corporation and will go directly to the Syringa Hospice Program.
